To ensure we continue to provide inclusive opportunities to the people within our community, VOAMI has exclusively retained Nonprofit HR to conduct a recruitment campaign for our next President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The position of President and CEO is a critical and visible position requiring strong business (financial and operations) and development experience. The President and CEO reports to the Board of Directors and provides the strategic leadership and overall direction of Volunteers of America Michigan, a church and nonprofit corporation, in a manner that is consistent with the national charter, local strategic plan, and mission.
The President and CEO will oversee the development and administration of programs and operational activities of a 300-employee agency while ensuring the organizations resources are used in such a way to maximum benefits to the client and the community. Responsibilities include the management of all technical, financial, and personnel measures along with operational and administrative management, fundraising/resource development, and strategic planning. The mission of Volunteers of America Michigan is to provide a haven in which everyone has the potential to grow, achieve dignity, and find purpose for a fulfilled life.
It is essential to actively engage in fundraising activities, including cultivating and soliciting prospects for financial gifts. Be the face and voice of the organization to major funders, as well as formulate & execute a comprehensive branding, development, and engagement strategy.
The Chief Executive Officer must understand the process of planning and organizing to advance the organization’s mission and goals by actively seeking and developing relationships with community partners, other professional organizations, and governmental and non-governmental agencies to increase awareness of Volunteers of America’s mission and optimize opportunities to broaden its reach and influence. The Chief Executive Officer must have experience collaborating with diverse members of the community to include a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion focus. The ideal candidate will be an expert at fiscal management and oversight competencies to review financial reports and determines status progress in attaining objectives as well as oversee long-range planning with leadership and Board and possess the ability to manage the public relations and business affairs of a nonprofit organization.
A bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree in Nonprofit Administration, Social Work, Business Administration, or related field is preferred, but not required. A minimum of 10 years in a senior leadership role with experience in management roles with at least five (5) years in an executive level position in a nonprofit organization or leading a business that has demonstrated growth and profitability. The position requires someone with proven success in building relationships and working effectively with diverse groups. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, with considerable experience in writing and presenting information to a variety of audiences. As the lead minister for the Church of Volunteers of America Michigan the President and CEO is required to be, at minimum, a commissioned minister upon hire, or to obtain commissioning through Volunteers of America within three (3) years of employment.
