Oakland Family Services is a private, nonprofit human service organization serving the area since 1921. It offers a continuum of prevention, education and treatment services that span the human life cycle, enrich the lives of children, strengthen families and rebuild lives. The agency builds brighter futures in our community through adoption, foster care, parenting and child development programs, free preschool for at-risk youth, and counseling services for those of all ages dealing with depression, anxiety, substance use issues, and severe emotional disturbance in youth. Oakland Family Services has three locations across Oakland County, one in Pontiac, one in Berkley and one in Walled Lake.

Oakland Family Services (www.oaklandfamilyservices.org) seeks a dynamic, experienced and enthusiastic Director of Development to provide leadership of a multi-faceted fundraising and community engagement program.  The successful candidate will have experience with the oversight, implementation and growth of major and planned gifts, annual giving, the Benevon program, special events and donor relations and stewardship, including gift entry and acknowledgement.  The Director of Development will serve as a member of the organization’s Senior Leadership Team and work with the Board and volunteers to meet and exceed annual contributed revenue goals.

The Director of Development, along with the Executive Director and select Board members, will carry a portfolio of prospects (individual, corporate, foundation) utilizing a “moves management” process.  The successful candidate must be comfortable with face-to-face solicitations and prospect cultivation best practices.  Wealth screening, prospect research and solicitation briefings are essential in this position.  Experience with Capital Campaigns is preferred.

Additional responsibilities include a variety of public and agency relations activities designed to heighten agency awareness with various constituencies.  Experience with media relations is a plus.  As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Director of Development will work in a collaborative manner, adopting an “open door policy” and participating in a variety of leadership responsibilities that ensure a respectful working relationship with other senior leaders.  Sensitivity to the diversity of the agency’s service population is critical.

Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must, along with critical thinking, creativity, attention to detail and the ability to manage goals and objectives without supervision.  Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communication, public relations or related fields is required, as is a minimum of five years of fundraising experience.  Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint required; experience with Raiser’s Edge CRM is a plus.
