Executive Director

The Mackinac Arts Council are seeking qualified applicants for the position of Executive Director.  This is a salaried, full-time, year-round position located on Mackinac Island.  The Executive Director reports directly to the Board President and oversees the Development and Program Directors.

Organization:

The Mackinac Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization designated as Mackinac Island’s non-profit arts agency. Located on Mackinac Island, Michigan and now in its 19th year, the Arts Council serves and works in partnership with Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, Mackinac Island Community Foundation, Mackinac State Historic Parks, Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum, the City of Mackinac Island, Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau, and other community groups to meet the arts and cultural needs of the Mackinac Island community through a diversity of initiatives, services and cultural programming.

Position Summary:

The Executive Director directs and administers all programs, operations, and policies, as established by Mackinac Arts Council, in addition to supervising two professional staff positions.

 

The Executive Director serves in multiple roles of general manager, fundraiser, marketer, organization’s spokesperson, event teammate, and when necessary, administrative office tasks mirroring 70% tactical responsibilities and 30% strategic responsibilities. This position works closely with and reports directly to the Board President and the Board of Trustees.

Qualifications:

·       Strategic and innovative thinker

·       A strong passion for the arts

·       College graduate with at least 5 years management experience, preferably in a non-profit organization, with significant experience in the arts or a related area; prior experience as a senior leader or non-profit Executive Director is preferred

·       Master’s degree in a relevant field is a plus

·       Knowledge of the greater Mackinac County and Northern Michigan area arts community is a plus

·       Proven experience managing a staff to align organization structure and capabilities to support future organizational growth

·       Proven record in fundraising or revenue enhancement strategies

·       Outstanding written, oral and interpersonal communication skills

·       Strong planning, organizational and analytical skills

·       Ability to positively motivate and develop staff

·       Ability to build collaboration and consensus with the board and community

 

Necessary Skills:

 

·       Organized and efficient at planning, directing, and controlling the activities of the staff by developing detailed and specific procedures and processes to completion

·       Proven ability to problem-solve and multi‐task with an attention to detail

·       Must be self‐motivated and demonstrate effective time management skills

·       Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to train and motivate staff, establish professional working relationships with the board, members, donors, and the community

·       Social Media knowledge in publication using Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn

·       Strong computer skills including but not limited to:

o   Word

o   Spreadsheet preparation using Microsoft Excel

o   Slide and deck preparation using Microsoft PowerPoint

o   Databases

o   Simple Accounting Financial Reporting

o   Layout and Design using Photoshop or equivalent

o   Web Design and Maintenance experience a plus
