Description Job Title: Director of Development

The Director of Development is the senior development professional at the University and plays a vital role in driving the success of the organization, supporting Cleary University’s fundraising, community engagement, and relationship building efforts.

The Director of Development will report to the President and will help the university reach its fundraising goals by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding gifts at all levels. This results-orientated and relationship-driven individual will manage a portfolio donors and prospects who have the capacity to support Cleary University.

Job Responsibilities

·        Design and implement strategies to ensure that all the organization’s advancement and philanthropy goals and objectives are achieved.

·        In conjunction with the President, implement Cleary University’s annual fundraising plan and endowment objectives collaborating with individuals throughout the organization to establish and achieve annual financial targets.

Build a portfolio of fundraising prospects and strategically manage relationships through significant visits (e.g. face-to-face, virtual and phone) to bring solicitations to closure.
·        Assist with management and planning of university’s annual signature fundraising events.

·        Establish and grow the university’s annual fund, planned-giving, major gifts, corporate and foundation outreach.

Supervise gift processing.
Effectively utilize Salesforce to maintain records of contacts with prospects and donors; analyze research materials to target appropriate prospects; and track the status of all solicitation opportunities
Prepare written proposals, gift agreements, letters of intent and other materials needed to define, secure and document major gifts
Build a portfolio of fundraising prospects and strategically manage relationships through significant visits (e.g. face-to-face, virtual and phone) to bring solicitations to closure.
·       Work with a small internal staff—and possibly outside vendors—to for back office and administrative support.



·        Successful candidates will possess all or many of the following qualifications and/or skills:

·        Bachelor’s degree. CFRE certification preferred;

·        A minimum of 4-6 years of experience in development, community outreach and marketing for nonprofit organizations, serving in progressively responsible positions;

·        3-5 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a non-profit environment;

·        Demonstrated success in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a wide range of individual, corporate and foundation prospects;

·        Excellent oral and written communication skills;

·        A flexible and adaptable management style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical initiatives in a rapidly evolving environment;

·        The ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at one time;

·        High energy and a passion for Cleary University’s mission;

·        Ability to construct, articulate, and implement an annual strategic development and communications plan;

·        Strong organizational and time management skills with close attention to detail;

·        Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Salesforce CRM; and

·        Experience working with high level community volunteers, including a board of directors.
