The Program Manager (PM) is a visionary leader, strong manager, and critical contributor of the Mosaic team. Working closely with the Executive & Artistic Director, the Program Manager supports the growth of Mosaic youth ensemble, school residency, college-career pathways and summer programming. Mosaic envisions a world where all youth have equitable access to creative youth development programs that equip them with the support and tools they need to live inspired and fulfilled lives. Providing thoughtful leadership and coaching support to coordinators and teaching artists, the Program Manager will work with the Executive & Artistic Director to ensure that all Mosaic programs are mission aligned and support Mosaic’s efforts to provide equitable access to transformative arts experiences that enhance the outcomes of Detroit-area youth. Duties include, but are not limited to: planning, organizing, staffing, evaluating, leading, and promoting program activities.



·         Work with the Executive & Artistic Director to create, modify, implement, and monitor programmatic strategic and artistic plan activities, ensuring that programs are in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization.

·         Facilitate transparent communication as it relates to program development updates, goals, and impacts on a regular basis.

·         Build and sustain an efficient, collaborative, and cohesive team; and enable interconnectivity across all program areas and the organization.

·         Embody and cultivate a culture of respect across Mosaic programs and shared expectations and values between team members, young people, partners, and families to ensure safety and wellbeing.

·         Work with team members to deepen and refine the Mosaic curriculum to reflect the values of Creative Youth Development and the Mosaic Model for Youth Development Through the Arts.

·         Oversee programs to ensure that each young person engages in a holistic and high-quality experience at Mosaic.

·         Collaborate with Mosaic team members to create a strong shared vision for youth, family, and teaching artist outreach and engagement.

·         Evaluate, modify, and implement current practices in professional development of teaching artists.

·         Keep informed of and strategically implement data, methods, and best practices regarding creative youth development, arts education partnership, and community-based arts programming.

·         Supervise systems for program data collection management, including data from school partners, complying with all laws and regulations.

·         Ensure the highest level of artist performance, student achievement, and parent and teacher engagement is obtained through identifying and meeting quality metrics and benchmarks

·         Serve as an ambassador and spokesperson for Mosaic programs, both internally with all staff and Board and externally across the arts, education, youth development, and philanthropy fields.


·         Collaborate with the Executive & Artistic Director and Finance & Operations leadership to craft, oversee, and update budgets.

·         Collaborate with the Executive & Artistic Director and Finance & Operations to ensure programs align with organizational mission, are appropriately staffed, and meet standards for quality.

·         Ensure ongoing guidance, coaching, feedback and annual reflection for program team members.

·         Collaborate with the Office Manager to implement the human resources policies, procedures and practices of the organization, ensuring personnel files for program team members are properly maintained and kept confidential.

·         Ensure work plans are revised as needed to ensure a high level of professionalism, accountability and capacity

·         Work with School & Partnership Coordinator to communicate and follow up with contract service partners to ensure payment for all services performed.

·         Create proactive and responsive learning opportunities for teaching artists to engage in professional development to suit their greatest needs as they grow within the organization.

·         Recruit and oversee program volunteers and interns.


·         Craft links between creative workforce development and work opportunities among youth ensembles, alumni and community.

·         Ensure program grant and contract compliance specifically that all conditions and requirements are met

·         Work with leadership team to develop funding proposals for the program and complete narrative program grant reports to ensure the continuous delivery of services

·         Support board engagement, as directed by the Executive & Artistic Director, including leading program components of board and committee meetings and promoting attendance at open programs.

·         Work closely with the leadership team to identify and pursue funding opportunities that align with program vision and goals, including reviewing proposals and participating in meetings and site visits.


·         Establish and nurture reciprocal relationships with local, national and international other youth and arts-centered organizations, community-based artists, community organizations, Detroit area schools, and higher education institutions in support of deepening of Mosaic’s programs and impact.

·         Field and respond to program inquiries and opportunities to develop new partnerships.

·         Collaborate with programs team to support and inform opportunities to leverage Mosaic’s facility and programs to host or convene stakeholders to advance Mosaic’s mission, presence in the field, and strategic vision.

·         Lead program team in engaging in community dialogue regarding creative youth development and arts in education by hosting and participating in community conversations

·         Communicate with program participants and other stakeholders to solicit input to improve programs and gain community support for programs

·         Identify strategies for relaying data analysis outcomes in clear and concise, accessible ways to program constituents and stakeholders


Through the effective delivery of programs that engage, transform and inspire youth and community, financial sustainability, maintenance of a high-quality team, and increase in the public’s knowledge of the work of Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit. Annual attainment of organizational goals and above mentioned criterion


·         Some travel required as a part of program delivery, oversight and evaluation, training and meeting participation.

·         Some evening and weekend hours required.

·         Some heavy lifting and moving of supplies.
