Chief Development Officer
Salary Range – $120K to $140K Annually

Advantage Health Centers (AHC) is a network of medical, dental, and behavioral health clinics committed to meeting the healthcare needs of the uninsured, underinsured, and medically underserved, regardless of ability to pay.  As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), AHC receives funds from the HRSA Health Center Program and qualifies for specific reimbursement systems under Medicare and Medicaid. To advance its mission of improving the health and wellbeing of Metro Detroit’s most vulnerable populations, AHC seeks to diversify its revenue stream through strategic fundraising.
AHC is now recruiting a dynamic, relationship-oriented Chief Development Officer (CDO) to build a sustainable philanthropy program. The CDO is responsible for organizing, implementing, and overseeing all fundraising efforts for AHC. As a key member of AHC’s executive team, the CDO provides leadership for the creation and advancement of strategic fund development initiatives to include, primarily: a major and planned giving program; annual giving, events, donor stewardship and recognition programs; and public relations related to development.
This position reports to the President/CEO of Advantage Health Centers.

Duties Functions and Responsibilities
Major Gifts and Planned Giving (60%)
Develop and maintain a portfolio of prospective donors capable of making major and planned gifts.
Use a moves management model to strategically cultivate relationships with prospective donors in anticipation of soliciting major and planned gifts.
Develop and execute balanced gifting plans that serve prospective donors.
Ensure the availability and promotion of appropriate outright and planned giving vehicles.
Appropriately engage the President/CEO, non-development staff members, board members, and other volunteers, as appropriate, in prospect identification, the development of relationship management strategies, the solicitation process, and donor stewardship.
Other Fundraising and Public Relations (20%)
Strategically grow the prospective donor base for donors at all levels of giving capability.
Plan, coordinate, and execute annual campaigns.
Execute innovative ideas for raising increased funding from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other sources.
Oversee and strengthen donor recognition and stewardship programs.
Develop and conduct outreach within the surrounding community, creating opportunities to cultivate relationships with local businesses, civic and social groups, estate and financial planning professionals, and others with an interest in the value and mission of AHC.
Assist marketing staff in writing and editing marketing materials to attract major, planned, and annual, gifts consistent with AHC’s branding.
Respond to all inquiries resulting from marketing efforts and create proactive strategies for follow-up.
Development Operations and Board Management (20%)
Develop and refine strategic development plan with short- and long-range goals to meet funding objectives, enlisting support from the President/CEO, executive staff, internal and external volunteers, and volunteer groups, as appropriate.
Facilitate board activities including oversight of board development committee; execution of board-driven fundraising activities; and support of board candidate identification, recruitment, and training.
Implement and adhere to fundraising policies, systems, and procedures.
Prepare and submit annual development budget.
Prepare and write development annual report on fundraising activities and progress.
Attend regularly scheduled meetings, including senior management meetings.
Recruit, train, evaluate, and supervise Development Assistant.
Oversee the timely and accurate recording of pertinent information in the development software program.
Participate in training and other educational offerings to maintain working knowledge of fundraising best practices and ethics of philanthropy.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Thorough knowledge and understanding of all areas of fundraising including major, planned, and annual giving.
A record of progressively responsible fundraising experience and leadership.
Outstanding interpersonal and managerial skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to gain the support and confidence of leadership team, volunteer leaders, all levels of staff, and broader constituency.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.
Discretion when dealing with highly sensitive information and a focus on customer service.
Highly motivated to set and achieve measurable goals.
Experience working with volunteers desired.
A strong interest or background in health care desired.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education, Licenses, Registration, and Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field required.
Master’s degree preferred.
CFRE, AFP, or other fundraising certification preferred.
Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or comparable donor management system required.
Competence in Microsoft Office products required.
Ability to travel and drive an automobile for off-site meetings.

At least seven years of successful, progressively responsible fundraising experience with an emphasis on major gifts required.
Budget management skills required.
Annual fund experience preferred.
Grant writing experience preferred.
Event management experience preferred.
