About SOAR Lifelong Learning Institute
SOAR is a community-based nonprofit located at The Hawk in Farmington Hills and affiliated with Wayne State University and Road Scholar, a network of lifelong learning institutes. SOAR offers a broad range of noncredit classes and activities which provide multiple opportunities for intellectual, social, and cultural enrichment, and personal growth. Classes are offered by volunteer faculty who are recruited from colleges and universities across the state and the nation, including WSU, and from a wide range of professions. Classes are offered in the fall, winter, and spring, while individual events and a variety of interest groups are offered throughout the year. SOAR presents its activities both in-person and virtually.
An early innovator in the field of lifelong learning, SOAR believes all older adults, regardless of their geography, economic status, gender, ability or digital competency can benefit from access to SOAR’s lifelong learning, academic-style lectures and classes. SOAR’s goal is to enable its members to experience better mental and emotional health while enjoying social connectedness, cultural events and personal growth.
